There are so many wonderful things about the holiday season and I love all my old and new Christmas traditions. Baking cookies, picking out a Christmas tree and decorating it with family (although we tend to go fake these days), seeing the Christmas lights around the city, big family dinners, making and decorating gingerbread houses, listening to Christmas music and watching some of my favourite Christmas movies like Elf, Holiday Inn and A Charlie Brown Christmas.
My favourite little Christmas tradition is visiting the Central Experimental Farm (Canada Agriculture Museum) in Ottawa on the morning on Christmas Eve. We’ve been going as long as I can remember to wish all the animals a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! The farm used to be free in the winter but now they charge, but they sometimes have activities through the day like in the summer. In general a visit to the Experimental Farm is one of my favourite things to do in Ottawa, as well as the Ornamental Gardens in the warmers months. It’s just a nice relaxing way to spend the morning before a busy day begins.
We like to think the animals appreciate the bit of Christmas cheer and visiting them certainly puts us in a cheerful mood to start the day. So Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
