I have to admit that before Moo Shu Ice Cream I wasn’t really into ice cream but since they opened in summer 2016 on Bank Street I’ve become obsessed! Moo Shu’s ice cream flavours are so unique and unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. They use fresh and local ingredients and strive to be dietary friendly for people with those gluten or vegan concerns. This food post is less of a review and more of a rave about this little ice cream spot.
A little while ago I took a day trip to Almonte, Ontario, a town just outside of Ottawa. You can read my full guide to this charming little town here! One of the reasons I wanted to visit was to go to Hummingbird Chocolate, a bean-to-bar chocolate maker. Hummingbird Chocolate is sold around stores in Ottawa but I knew they had more to offer at their store and factory in Almonte. One of the great things is that they offer tours every Saturday at 10:30am. It’s $5 and then you get 10% anything you buy in store after the tour. But you should reserve online in advance because only 12 people are allowed on the tour and it only runs once a week. Find all the info here. Now for some more info, a review and photos!
When most people go shopping in Montreal they head right to busy Sainte-Catherine Street downtown that is just full of chain stores that you’ll usually find in shopping malls. The best shopping in Montreal is in the Mile End neighbourhood that has lots of local boutiques and vintage stores. On my most recent trip to Montreal I explored this area a bit more and found all the best shops.
Anyone who knows me knows I have a big sweet tooth and I’m also on the hunt for new treats. While walking through the Rideau Centre I saw free chocolate so of course I went over for a sample and discovered that Alicja Confections, an Ottawa based chocolate maker/shop now has a pop-up at the Rideau Centre through the holiday season. I’ve seen Alicja Confections before on Bank St. while walking through the Glebe but I’ve never actually stopped in before. I love supporting local brands and Alicja Confections is now one of my new favourite places for a sweet treat in the city.
Summer is almost over but there is still time to enjoy the beautiful weather with a nice glass of iced tea so I’ve complied a list of the best summertime cold drinks to have around Ottawa. This list is non-coffee drinks since I don’t drink coffee. It’s easy to grab an iced coffee anywhere but finding that perfect glass of iced tea is a little trickier.
